STATE REPRESENTATIVE ATTENDS BILL SIGNING
Bill Recently Signed Aims to Improve School Counseling Standards
State Rep. Ben Frederick, of Owosso, participated in a bill signing last week for state Rep. Brett Roberts’ legislation to update and specify professional development standards for K-12 counselors in Michigan schools.
The legislation calls for 25 of the required 150 hours of professional development be dedicated to career and technical education (CTE) – including five hours on military-based opportunities – and 25 hours for college preparation to assist in post-high school graduation preparation when working with students in grades 6-12.
Roberts’ bill was approved by the House Workforce and Talent Development Committee, which is chaired by Frederick, on the way to becoming state law.
