A new type of weather warning will be issued for Michigan's most deadly weather situation, the snow squall. The test counties for this new alert are in southeast Michigan and include Midland, Bay, Huron, Tuscola, Sanilac, Saginaw, Genesee, Shiawassee and Lapeer, among others. Snow squalls, or quick bursts of heavy snow, cause more loss of life in Michigan than any other weather phenomenon, experts say. Road conditions can change very quickly during snow squalls. Many of Michigan’s deadly freeway pile-ups have occurred during this weather phenomenon. The new Snow Squall Warning test period will take effect January 3rd 2018.
