Tubby’s Sub Shops, Detroit’s original grilled sub, is capitalizing on its strong growth by hosting its first-ever open forum for potential new franchisees to learn about investment opportunities.
The franchisee discussion will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 10, in Southfield. Interested entrepreneurs must be pre-registered via the Tubby’s website at www.Tubbys.com. Approved parties will be contacted and sent the meeting location.
"We’re having one of the most exciting years in our history following six consecutive years of double digit sales increases,” says Tubby’s executive vice president Bill Kiryakoza. "Our current effort will capitalize on this momentum by adding new franchisees and new locations throughout Michigan. This is potentially a golden opportunity for people looking to get into the business or add new franchises to their portfolio.”
For U.S. military veterans the opportunity is even more 'golden.' Tubby's offers qualified veterans 50 percent off the initial franchising fees. "Our experience is that veterans are extraordinarily disciplined and hardworking," says Kiryakoza. "We'd love to have more of them in our Tubby's family."
Much of Tubby's recent growth, including the addition of five new stores in the past year alone, stems from its 'Tubby's 201 Plan,' a comprehensive review and reinvention of the brand. As part of that plan, the company has increased its marketing budget, focused its menus, added exciting limited time offering subs, enhanced catering packages, increased drive-thru and delivery options, and is beginning to incorporate its recently acquired Just Baked line of cupcakes into its stores.
“Now is a great time to become a Tubby’s partner,” said Robert Paganes, president and CEO of Tubby’s. “Tubby’s 50th birthday will be celebrated in 2018 and we're laying the groundwork for some very exciting promotions, events and offerings.”
Tubby’s currently has 60 locations from Burton to Dundee with the bulk of them in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. While opportunities still exist in those counties, the company is especially hoping to attract potential franchisees throughout the southern half of Michigan's lower peninsula.
A Tubby's franchise can often be launched for less than its competitors and Tubby’s office personnel assist franchisees in every step along the way including finding suitable locations and negotiating leases. The Tubby’s model is relatively simple and is designed for ease of operation and return on investment. The company provides comprehensive training in franchise operations, bookkeeping and financial techniques, staffing and even Grand Opening procedures.
Prospective candidates must be financially capable of purchasing the marketing rights and facility in the chosen area with $50,000 of personal equity and a net worth of at least $250,000. Restaurant experience is preferred, but not required, and food service knowledge and management skills are an obvious plus.
"Our franchisees are our partners and our strength. Our 'Tubby's 201 Plan' appears to be hitting all the right chords, so we believe there's a real return-on-investment opportunity for new owners who want to turn their dream into a financial reality," Kiryakoza said.
