Residents and volunteers would normally be gearing up for Corunna Applefest around this time.  For the past three years the apple-themed festival has taken over McCurdy Park, but organizers have decided not to bring the event back this year, according to a post on the Shiawassee Apple Museum website.

Apple enthusiasts need not worry, however, because the Michigan Apple Festival is happening, and it's not too far a drive from Corunna.

The Country Mill in Charlotte, just south of Lansing, will play host to the two-day event.

Everything about apples and more, like horse-drawn wagon rides, a corn maze and and train rides to the orchard will be enjoyed.

Apple wine tasting is 12 to 5pm.  Apple picking, visit the ducks, llama, alpaca and pick a pumpkin will run from 9am to 6pm.  From 1-5pm, participate in a real blacksmith demonstration and make your own souvenir for only a dollar.

Free Shrugs Improv will perform clean comedy live at this year's festival.  The show runs 1:30 to 4pm in the Orchard Barn.

While most activities will occur both days of the event, Saturday September 23rd and Sunday September 24th, the Cider Rush 5K and Donut Dash 1 Miler happens Saturday September 23rd at 8am.  Entrants receive a tech tee, donut bits, cider, apple, plus a ticket for a bounce house, and the scenic, chip-timed trail route of apple trees and pumpkin patches! All ages are welcome for either event it's all family friendly!

5k awards will be handed out for overall Top 3 M/F!  Afterward, feel free to enjoy more autumn fun!

The race benefits the Greater Lansing Area Food Bank!  Sign up here.

On Sunday, meet the Michigan Apple Queen from noon to 3pm.  Performances by the Dance Studio will happen 2 to 3pm.  More apple wine tasting, corn maze, train rides, apple picking, petting zoo and pumpkin picking will happen on Sunday as well.
