#3 ranked Morrice picked off #1 Pickford on Saturday morning in each team's first-ever battle for the football state title.
Early in the game, the Pickford Panthers led Morrice 8-0, but Morrice came back unanswered to lead by twenty points. With 9 minutes left to play, the Orioles were up 36-16. A lot can happen in 9 minutes, and it did, for the Orioles. The team put another 8 points on the board, walking off the field with just seconds remaining in the game, satisfied with a 44-16 finish in the state championship game.
The game was played on turf inside Northern Michigan Unversity's Superior Dome in Marquette.
