The concert will be held Saturday evening, August 25th in Bancroft at 251 Prior Road. This is also the site of the future Welcome Home Veterans facility at the former site of the Wilbur Bills Elementary School. Gates open at 4pm and the event kicks off at 5:30 with a tribute to veterans.
“This will be another fantastic concert while raising funds for our veterans. “said Kimberly Bowen, a registered nurse who is Founder & President of Welcome Home Veterans
, a registered nonprofit 501c (3) organization which will manage the facility.
Bowen and the Owosso chapter of the organization 100+ Women Who Care raised funds to purchase the abandoned Wilbur Bills school with the goal of converting it into a transitional housing facility for veterans.
Bowen added, “I contacted the lead organizer of last year’s concert, Greg Martin, with the hopes of another fundraising concert. This time the proceeds will help facilitate the creation of emergency veterans’ housing. Greg, working with the Durand VFW Reed Raymond post, contacted committee members and lead musician, Robert Sager, who in turn contacted last year’s musicians. He said the performers, who live around the country, enthusiastically agreed to return to Shiawassee County for another performance. Last year’s concert raised $57,000 to complete a Veterans Memorial Park in Durand. All musicians are traveling back to Shiawassee County at their own expense.”
“I believe I speak for all of the musicians who feel it’s an honor to help those who have served us so well,” said Robert Sager, “Our veterans fought and sacrificed their lives for our freedom.” On a lighter note, Sager said last year’s concert was an outstanding success and an evening of pure classic rock, while also honoring our veterans. “This year’s concert will feature music by Jeff Beck, Buddy Miles, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Doors, AC/DC, Doobie Brothers, Eagles, Van Halen and others.”
VIP ($30) and general admission ($20) concert tickets can be purchased at the Reed Raymond VFW post and Jim’s Pizza in Durand or online at Squareup.
