At their recent meeting, the philanthropic organization, 100+ Women Who Care Greater Durand Area, considered three local non-profit groups for a donation.  The women voted to award their donation to the Durand Backpack Program.  With 100% participation, the program will receive $9,500 from the group.  Also considered were I Cancer Vive and Live Healthy Shiawassee.

This is the fourth meeting of the group, where each member commits to a $100 donation to the local non-profit with the majority vote. With full member participation of a 100 member group, that's $10,000 to the selected organization. The Durand group, 95 women strong, has room for a few more members.  In fact, Kathy Wilson of 100+ Women told Uplift Shiawassee that they'd love to see the group grow well beyond 100 participants.

All members are invited to pitch an organization for consideration. Three are drawn for consideration and after a presentation on behalf of each of the three organizations, a vote is held.

Previously, the group has donated to the Durand Educational Foundation, Durand Union Station and Durand's FIRST Robotics program; including the most recent gift, that's $33,500 impacting our local community.

The group meets just twice each year. Their next meeting will be September 20th at Durand First United Methodist Church, at the corner of Newburg and New Lothrop roads, at 7pm.
