During a five-week nomination period, visitors of the local news websites of The Durand Now Network (Durand Now LLC, henceforth referred to as "Durand Now"), CorunnaNow.com, DurandNow.com, OwossoNow.com, PerryPulse.com, LaingsburgPulse.com, UpShia.com and ShiawasseeNews.com, will be encouraged to nominate a local business. The official nomination form will ask for Business Name, Business Location (City) and Business Website or Social Media page. The official nomination form will also ask visitors to select a business category from a dropdown menu.
Following the five-week nomination period, all nominated businesses determined to meet the eligibility requirements of the contest will be assigned a category. Category assignment is at the sole discretion of Durand Now.
During a two-week preliminary voting period, visitors will be encouraged to select one option in each category. Visitors will not be required to select an option in each category.
At the culmination of the two-week preliminary voting period, all eligible votes will be counted to determine the five finalists in each category based on the most votes garnered in the preliminary round of voting.
The two-week preliminary voting period will include a "write in" option for businesses that were not nominated during the official nomination period. Businesses that are written in during the preliminary round of voting are not guaranteed a spot in the final round of voting. Write-ins will appear in the final round of voting only if there are not already five finalists in that category. If more than one write-in would cause a category to exceed five finalists, no write-ins will be accepted for that category.
Only the five finalists in each category will appear in the two-week final round of voting, except in the event an eligible business that won in the same category in two or more prior A-LIST contests does not receive enough votes in the current year's contest to appear among the five finalists. In that case, that business will be automatically added to the list of finalists and that category will have six or more finalists.
There is no limit to the number of votes an individual can cast for a single business in either round of voting, however, no votes may be cast using a device or program that automates the process. The detection of a bot or similar device or program that automates the voting process may result in the user's inability to vote, the removal and recalculation of votes, and/or the removal of a voting option altogether.
Eligibility requirements are as follows:
1. Business must be located or have an office, warehouse or other real estate located in Shiawassee County.
2. Business must be open to and operating for Shiawassee County residents during the contest period.
3. Business must not initiate, encourage or allow the use of an automated device or program during the voting process.
The determination of eligibility is at the sole discretion of Durand Now.
Upon the culmination of the final round of voting, a single winner will be revealed in each category. In the event of a tie in the final round of voting, the finalist which garnered the higher number of votes in the preliminary round will be named the winner. In the event of a tie in the preliminary round of voting, finalists will be displayed in alphabetical order. In the event a tie in the preliminary round of voting would force more than five finalists into a category, neither/none will become finalists.
Contest rules may be updated or amended at any time.
